Delight, inspire, instruct, and engage students to form excellent reasoning, speaking and writing skills.
Language Mastery: Literature and Classic Grammar is the Biblical and historic approach to teaching the language arts, designed for use by the modern learner in a Christian school or homeschool setting. It guides the student using a whole approach that seamlessly joins classic grammar and classic literature to equip the student with the skills of speaking and writing, and the joy of literature and learning.
The Language Mastery program is based on Classic Grammar and the FACE Christian History Literature Program. The basic principle of the program is that children master language proficiently when immersed in the Bible and the classics—the earlier, the better. Most importantly, children cultivate a Biblical worldview as they enjoy the love of language, literature, and poetry at its best.
How does this translate to the language classroom? The same simple and practical method is used throughout the grades:
- The teacher prepares to engage students in the classic by reading aloud beloved classics.
- The students build a notebook guided by their student handbook and governed by their teacher.
- Each classic is selected to impart wisdom, build understanding, and give rich experiences for internalizing life principles.
- Each weekly lesson includes reading aloud, reasoning from principles and leading ideas, analyzing words, sentences, prosody and personal expression in speaking and writing.
- The academic year is divided into four quarters of nine weeks of lessons, each outlined in this teaching guide.
- Teacher preparation consists of reading and knowing the classics and the support material and preparing to read aloud. Also, consists of practicing the routines, analysis methods, and speaking and writing skills.
- The classics lead students into new and fascinating worlds of adventures to freely enjoy and delight in language as it transports life principles and ideals.
