FACE welcomed 35 participants to the Foundations Course in Tyler Texas the first week of August. The course was hosted by Christian Heritage School, a Principle Approach School headed by Jeff Schapansky. The entire CHS faculty, administration and several staff were in attendance, along with Barbara Kilkenny, who co-founded the school with her husband Jim in 1980.
In attendance were also several who are planning to start Principle Approach schools in Houston and in Colorado. Mike Myers and Max Lyons traveled to Texas and were joined by new teaching fellows Jill White of New Braunfels, Texas and Stephanie Holler from Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The Foundations for Authentic Christian Teaching and Learning Course relies on Biblical reasoning; the practice of the methods that form Christian character; mastery of the Biblical classical approach that measurably forms the Biblical worldview for all of life; preparation to be a living textbook to your students; use of Christian scholarship to cultivate effective communication skills; the emergence of the teaching gift that elevates the individual, imparts vision for the Kingdom, and rebuilds the culture for Christ.
Comments from participants included:
“The Tutorial Spirit was the most powerful and inspiring to me>”
“Thank you for coming to Texas! Your generosity and labor to help equip us is greatly valued. I value the richness and life of Principle Approach.”
The topics were all beneficial; however ‘Thinking Governmentally,’ ‘Worldviews,’ the model lessons, literature, grammar, and the ‘Notebook Method’ were the ones that stood out. I will be implementing the Principles in a deeper way.”
“What I found most inspiring and encouraging was that every subject can be taught with Biblical principles, the importance of liberty, and seeing God’s providence in all of history.”
