Many parents are realizing the unexpected opportunity, due to the present crises, to invest exceptional influence in their children—focused time, relaxed schedules, and often, many discussions and questions that count for eternity. How will we redeem the time?
SACRED: Holy; pertaining to God or to his worship; separated from common secular uses and consecrated to God and his service.
Webster’s 1828
As we are given sacred time, we have the privilege of restoring to our children’s hearts the most treasured holy things pertaining to God. Not only to reclaim Christ in our work, school, home and character, but also to put a hedge around what is Christ-honoring. How can we use this time God has given us to fill up our children’s heart with things pertaining to God?
- One way is to see God in each other through our individuality, honoring and giving honor to the gifts and abilities God has given each of us. You can do this through art, at-home theatrical performances, music, worship or any special gift you see in your children.
- Second is to read poetry. Poetry is a wonder of language that not only appeals to the soul but sparkles the imagination. Poetry is a great way to show the beauty woven into language.
- Third is hymns. Hymns are treasures of beauty teaching us about God and his character and developing our ear to music. Hymns are overflowing with scripture and call us to a level of magnificence in a way nothing else can.
Ephesians 5:18-19 says “Be filled with the Spirit; speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord.”
Remember: Developing devotion to God through daily activities is essential in helping our children see God in all things. As important as it is to read the Bible, it is also important to return daily our hearts to God in all things.
