Preserving our History, Shaping Future Generations for Liberty: Why America’s 250th Birthday is a Second Revolution

by | FACE News

As the United States prepares to mark its Semiquincentennial in 2026, FACE invites patriots, parents, pastors, and Christian school leaders to look beyond the fireworks and remember how we teach the truth about America as a Christian nation.

A Milestone Year for America

In July 2026, the United States will celebrate a historic milestone: the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Often called the Semiquincentennial, America’s 250th birthday is a monumental national moment. Across the country, communities are planning parades, exhibitions, and public festivals to honor this quarter-millennium of history.

For The Foundation for American Christian Education (FACE), this celebration cannot just be about flags, picnics, and fireworks. It represents something much more enduring: an unprecedented, once-in-a-generation opportunity to transform how the next generation is prepared to govern our great nation by teaching them the truth about America as a Christian nation.

The true legacy of America’s 250th birthday won’t be found in commercial souvenirs. It will be found in Principle Approach® classrooms and home schools, where young people learn the Biblical principles of Christian self-government and the inspiring story of liberty in America.

The United States is Unique in all of History

When teaching the American Founding, we remember the Pilgrims, the Puritans, the adventurers, entrepreneurs, explorers, and settlers who shared a common conviction based on Christ and the Word of God. It was this conviction that led the Founders to pledge their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor in the cause of liberty. It built strong communities and unleashed innovation. New-found liberty was expressed in an explosion of invention and enterprise that spread westward.

When Thomas Jefferson wrote that “all men are created equal, and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights,” he expressed the common belief of the colonists that America was providentially prepared for Christian self-government and to be a beacon of liberty to the world.

“Where the Spirit of the Lord Is, there is Liberty.”

The generation that authored The Declaration of Independence was formed by moral reasoning and steeped in Biblical wisdom, classical philosophy, and historical understanding. The education that prepared them for this monumental task was neither specialized nor taught by credentialed professionals. It was designed to form moral character and virtue capable of sustaining a Christian self-governing Republic.

Today, it is a joy and privilege to be an American; however, it carries a serious responsibility. While we celebrate this extraordinary milestone of 250 years since our Declaration of Independence, we must commit to educating the next generation to keep it.

The Next 250 Years Begin Today

The year 1776 was a dividing point in world history, only second to the birth of our Lord, Jesus Christ.

Each religion has a form of government, and Christianity astonished the world by establishing Christian self-government. With the landing of the Pilgrims in 1620, Christian self-government became the foundation stone of the United States of America. “The stone that the builders refused is become the headstone of the corner.” Psalm 118:22; Matthew 21:42 (The Christian History of the Constitution of the United States of America, compiled by Verna Hall)

Sustaining the idea of our Christian heritage, Biblical self-government, and public virtue requires constant education in these principles. It demands that each generation learn the skills of citizenship to enjoy the blessings of liberty.

As we celebrate America’s 250th birthday, let us commit to giving our young people the greatest gift possible: instruction in the kind influence of Christianity, to which we owe our civil liberty. In proportion, as the effects of Biblical Christianity are diminished in our great nation, through unbelief, corruption, or neglect, we will lose the blessings of genuine freedom.
