The Courts must declare the sense of the law; and if they should be disposed to exercise will instead of judgement; the consequences would be the substitution of their pleasure for that of the legislative body.
Alexander Hamilton, Federalist 72
There is a new term being used in the media, “Lawfare,” where the laws of the land are corrupted and weaponized against a political opponent. Americans are increasingly losing faith in the idea of an impartial justice system based on the rule of law. However, our US Constitution provides a remedy for “lawfare,” balancing our three equal branches of government by calling on the legislative branch. Plus the scriptures give us a clear pathway for seeking God’s wisdom to restore the “rule of law.”
Teach the Children:
- Judges are charged by God with rendering fair judgments. (Deuteronomy 1:16-17)
- A judge wishing to be impartial should call upon the Lord for wisdom.
- A judge must not substitute his or her own preferences for those of the law, but if he does, our US Constitution provides checks and balances to restrict these judgments.
And I charged your judges at that time, ‘Hear the cases between your brothers, and judge righteously between a man and his brother or the alien who is with him.
Deuteronomy 1:16
