Mission and History of Christian Heritage School
Mission of CHS: Christian Heritage School is a K-12 Principle Approach school dedicated to disciple nations through education. God transforms lives, and when both families and teachers are individually walking in submission to the leading of the Holy Spirit and the Bible is at the foundation of all of life and learning, sincere faith and Biblical reasoning are inspired equipping our teachers and students to lead in their own life calling for the Glory of God and the Advancement of the Christian Faith.
History
Initially, the mission of CHS was to come alongside missionary families to provide an education for children that inspired a foundation of faith promoting a legacy of liberty. God calls families into missions. Our goal was to strengthen the family as they are trained at our missionary training center of YWAM Tyler to obey Jesus’s Great Commission (from Matthew 28) to Go into all the world making disciples of all the nations teaching them to obey all that He has commanded us. We long to serve families excellently so that when they go from our campus, they are strengthened with a unity of purpose.
We soon realized that many families in our community in East Texas are on mission for the Gospel, and they too longed to see a generation of young American Christians who know God and His ways and long to preserve the foundations of liberty in this nation. Since then, 2/3 of our school families are families from our East Texas community.
From the start, people asked Dr. and Mrs. Kilkenny, “How can you expect to find the specialized teachers you need to run a school run by missionaries who are coming to your campus to be trained to go and establish works including schools around the world?” Dr. Jim Kilkenny would always reply, “That is a great question. I don’t know, but God is able to provide for His school.” Dr. Kilkenny and his wife, Barbara, never referred to CHS as their school. They saw clearly that clinging to God is a posture of strength.
