Let the rivers clap their hands; let the hills sing for joy together before the Lord, for He comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world with righteousness and the peoples with equity.
Psalm 98:8-9 ESV
The new buzz word for the progressive left is “equity”. At quick glance, this seems like a good idea—guarantee equity for every person in the United States.
After all, the Declaration of Independence states: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal…
However, the word equality has been co-opted with equity, and the “new” meaning of equity is summed up as “everyone achieves the same result regardless of talent, education, experience or hard work”. The enormous power of government is harnessed to erase “gaps” in outcomes of different demographic groups based on sex, race or gender identity. It is used as a tool to gain more power and poison civil discourse in America!
The truth is, equity is not about equal outcomes: it is about equal opportunity; freedom of speech; personal responsibility; justice and equality for all in the marketplace or the courtroom disregarding any other characteristic.
It is impossible to guarantee “equity” for every individual and we should NOT try to achieve this goal. The diversity that resides in our nation is meant for good as it generates new ideas, inventions, creativity, innovation and growth for the common blessing.
As Christians our task is to help those less fortunate and share the Good News of Jesus Christ with them. This is the beginning of new life filled with greater opportunity. Then, we can rely on God’s promise: He will judge the world with righteousness and the peoples with equity.
Teach the Children:
- Personal responsibility is the key to success in life.
- Equity is about equal opportunity, not equal outcomes.
- Study history and learn how communism and socialism have stolen the meaning of “equity” in the past and the devastating outcomes that resulted (China, Russia).
