James Atticus Bowden graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1972. He served for 20 years as an Airborne, Ranger Infantry Officer in five Divisions. His last field duty was Executive Officer, 2nd Brigade, 3 AD in “The Gap.” He led the last Army 21 Study at the US Army Training and Doctrine Command. He earned graduate degrees at Harvard University and Columbia University and taught as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at USMA and Adjunct Faculty at the College of William and Mary. He was a defense contractor with a specialty in “Army Futures.” He created the Army tactical operations concept “The Quality of Firsts.” He is a writer. He wrote a novel and the non-fiction “A Grief Observed” as well as over one thousand pieces since 9-11. Bowden was an elected Republican Party official in Virginia for 20 years and is still active in local politics.
