How strangely will the Tools of a Tyrant pervert the plain meaning of words.
Sam Adams 1722-1803
When leaders change the meaning of words, we should ask, “Why? Words are how we think, reason, discern, and make decisions. Is the meaning of a word being changed to change the way we think about a subject? If so, for what reason? Throughout history, men have often changed words to change minds to their advantage. This is tyranny of the mind, or in past centuries, “brainwashing.”
Think of words used today in politics and media like social justice, education, gender, and choice. These words carry meanings that pervert their original uses and therefore “brainwash” minds into assuming untruth as equivalent to truth. Perverting meanings, like “choice,” to mean killing the unborn, has legalized action forbidden by natural and moral law from the beginning of time. Suddenly, our Constitutional law is circumvented, new laws are enacted, policy issues are revised, and budgets are created. We have witnessed the effects in every aspect of our culture and lifestyle.
Do words have power? We must speak truth to power by holding to the true meaning of words.
