At various times in history, church and the state were one and the same; at other times they were separate, even antagonists. This presentation will provide examples of both from history. In Puritan New England, pastors preached to the newly elected assembly and explained what the people expected of them.  Could this happen today? In the Islamic world the line separating church and state is also ill-defined, and the results can be jarring.
