Check Your Faith at the Door?

At Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination hearing for a seat on the U.S. Supreme Court, Senator Diane Feinstein remarked: “The dogma lives loudly in you,” referring to Barrett’s Catholic faith. When Associate Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson joins the court this summer, there will be six Catholics, two Protestants, and one Jew on the court. Should a judge be allowed to bring faith into the courtroom, at any level of the federal court system? Do recent opinions on abortion, school tuition and football field prayer provide an answer?
