A Lessons in Liberty Presentation by Gary Porter on the principle of Christian Self Government concerns the-all important question, “How should man best be controlled?” The Bible puts it this way: will we control ourselves or will we demand to be controlled by others (parents, employers, spouses, teachers, or civil governments)? As individuals, we all realize that we need to practice self-control, a fruit of the spirit. As parents, we want to know what would be the best way to bring…Find out more »
A Lessons in Liberty Presentation The principle of America’s Heritage of Christian Character, presented by Max Lyons, is part three of a seven part series on the Seven Principles of Liberty. Sadly we are witnessing the death of our republican form of government. This is primarily due to a loss of our national character. Our second president, John Adams rightly observed: “We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice,…Find out more »
A Lessons in Liberty Presentation The principle of Conscience is the Most Sacred of all Property, presented by Gary Porter, is part four of a seven part series on the Seven Principles of Liberty. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jy7SE9s0Vc Life and liberty are secure only as the right of private ownership of property is strictly protected. Both internal (conscience) and external (land, etc.) property must be protected from perpetual assault. Ownership of private property is essential to a strong nation. Internal property is the most important…Find out more »
Lessons in Liberty, The Seven Principles of Liberty: The Christian Principle of American Political Union
Presented by Dr. Rodriguez. Christianity produces civil or political union in a different way than the world does. It produces union based upon spiritual unity. Congregational clergyman Leonard Bacon observed that the early churches "became a community united, not by external bonds, but by the vital force of distinctive ideas and principles." The unity of believers eventually works its way from the individual sphere to the family, church and civil spheres. Join us Monday, April 15 at 7:00 pm for…Find out more »
Lessons in Liberty, The Seven Principles of Liberty: How the Seed of Local Self-Government is Planted
The family is the first level of local self-government. It is at this level that God has designed most of the functions of life to take place: material provision, nurture and raising of children, including their education, medical needs, and spiritual development. It is God’s plan and purpose that these essentials of life are taken care of at the most basic level of government, the family, rather than at a more centralized level of government, whether it is the city…Find out more »
Lessons in Liberty 2019 Lecture Series: The Seven Principles of Liberty Noah Webster correctly observed, “Almost all the civil liberty now enjoyed in the world owes its origin to the principles of the Christian religion—the religion which has introduced civil liberty, is the religion of Christ and his apostles.” Governmental forms are not equal; the freest form of government is one that is Biblical, embodying these aspects: a written constitution, separation of powers, fixed equally applied laws, protection of equal…Find out more »
Part One of a Ten Part Lessons in Liberty series. Our national problems today, in 2019, are manifold: staggering, unaddressed national debt; porous borders which admit thousands of illegal immigrants each and every day; cries for more and more government control of our lives; a public education system which has clearly failed us; and a Christian church which seems either to not understand the magnitude of the problem or which simply does not care. Verna Hall, were she alive to contemplate…Find out more »
Lessons in Liberty, The Bible and the Constitution: Our Heritage of Christian Character and Government
Part Two of a Ten Part Lessons in Liberty series. In this session we will answer these important questions: Do Americans still have the capacity for self-government which our Founders demonstrated when they launched the world’s first Christian republic? Have the failures of our basic institutions—the home, the church, and the school eroded our “capacity for self-government”, that legacy of liberty bequeathed to us by all those who helped establish Constitutional government— Christian self-government with voluntary union— the basic principle…Find out more »
Part Three of a Ten Part Lessons in Liberty series. In this session Gary Porter will show how the unique idea of local self-government was birthed in our nation. This Biblical idea was first manifested in the Hebrew Republic, the God-given government of the Israelites. The next time we see it fully manifested in history was 3,000 years later in the American colonies! Our founders established Christian self-government in 1781 because they had practiced it for over 150 years in…Find out more »
